COMMUNICATIVE READING

Procedure

1.
Divide the students into groups of four.

2.
Provide each group with a dictionary or a computer.

3.
Hand out four sets of texts to each group. Each text is divided into four sections.
Each student gets the complete text on four cards. They put the cards face down in front of them. Card 1 is on the top.

4.
Now hand out the role cards to the groups. Each student gets a role:
A) asking questions, B) summarising, C) looking up two new words which must be explained, D) true or false.

5.
Now the students read the first card. Either all the members of the group read it quietly on their own, or A reads out loud.
Then each student does the task according to their roles A, B, C or D.

6.
After everybody has completed their task, the role cards are passed on clockwise.

7.
Now the students read card 2 and complete their tasks.

8.
Finally the students explain what the text was about.
